i City Shah Alam

If you are wondering where to go in the evening, head for i City in Shah Alam, Selangor and enjoy the thousands of LED (light emitting diodes) that are used to build trees and animals. The advancement of LED technology has enabled many colourful lights with different intensity possible. Colours that you can see here include yellow, red, blue, orange, white and green. Bring your best camera if you are into photography and take the best shot while you are here.

Look out for the pine trees, cactus, cow, giraffe and peacocks. It is a good place for family outing. There are shops here that serves food and drinks though not all are fully operational. Al-fresco dining is available here with a big LCD screen that entertains you while you are having your meals.

The most recent attraction that was opened to the public in March 2011 was the Snowalk, a 50,000 square feet environment 5&degC below zero. A good experience for those who want to experience a change of environment.

There is also an indoor theme park with video games, horse riding and games for your enjoyment.

Plan to spend about 2-4 hours here.

Snowalk

Snowalk is a 50,000 square feet area where the temperature has been brought down to -5&degC, a close replica of the winter condition in temperate country. You will see many ice sculptures that have been shaped by sculptors from Harbin, China. Harbin is located in north-east of China near Russia and is a popular holiday destination especially during winter season where you will see gigantic sculptures of buildings and animals done by the experts from the city of Harbin.

The sculptures include mini football field, swan, igloo, santa claus, reindeers and cafe tables. There is also a thin layer of man-made snow here though it is not as fine as the actual snow.

You will need to wear comfortable shoes with good grip as it can be quite slippery on certain parts of the hall. Long pants and gloves will certainly help to enable you to stay longer here. Jacket will be provided.

This place is open from 10am to 1am daily and entrance fees is RM25/adult and RM15/child below 12 years old. As of April 2011, there is a promotional rates of RM15/adult and RM10/child if you come from 10am to 6pm daily.

Outside the foyer, there are 4 machines that can produce snow or rather ice-making machine. They are on at certain times of the day for you to experience snow-fall.

Getting to I City

If you are coming from Kuala Lumpur using the Federal Highway, go towards the direction of Shah Alam. After passing through the toll after Subang Jaya, continue straight and look for the sign "I City" before reaching the second toll. Keep to your left and turn right at the traffic light. Go straight and turn left after this. Find a parking at the building next to the Snowalk.

Opening Hours

Snowalk opens from 10am - 1am Monday-Thursday, Sunday and Public Holidays and from 10am - 2am on Friday, Saturday and the eve of Public Holidays.

Obviously the digital lights only come on after dark (7pm onwards).


Entrance Fee

There is no entrance fee to see the City of Digital Lights.

For Snowalk, the charge is RM25 per adult and RM20 per child before 6pm and RM35 per adult and RM30 per child after 6pm. This fee includes rental of a jacket. Child rates apply to below 90cm or below age 12.

Parking

From 6am - 6pm: Mon-Fri RM1, Sat, Sun, Public Holidays RM 1 for first two hours and Rm 1 per hour thereafter (max RM5).

From 6pm to 6am: RM10

Gunung Ledang, Mount Ophir

The legendary beauty of Mount Ophir (Gunung Ledang) has made it one of Johor's most popular attractions for hikers and birdwatchers.
There two known ways of reaching the summit. One is from Sagil, a town in Johor, the other is through Asahan, Melaka. The shorter route is from Asahan. Gunung Ledang ( or Mount Ophir as it is otherwise better known ) is the most visited mountain in Malaysia. It is not peculiar to find people who has climb the mountain more than 10 times.

The reason being, the place is easily accessible and suitable for beginners who wants to feel what mountains in Malaysia are really like. Some groups are using this mountain as a training ground for other challenging venues. The Ledang trail starts from Gunung Ledang resort, near Sagil village is close to the Malacca and Johor border. The other way of reaching the summit is through Asahan trail in Melaka, an easier route. The paved road starts besides the river leading and leads towards a few staircases till an open gate, where the real climbing begins.

If you want to trek up Gunung Ledang, it's about five hours to the summit from the park. Alternatively, one can arrange a 4WD transfer for a quick and easier trip which interestingly, offers an equally beautiful view of the surrounding Sagil area and a breathtaking sight of Gunung Ledang Dam.

Gunung Ledang is believed to have the richest flora species in the world. It has a 50 metres high waterfall with a wide drop of 50 metres. It has icy cool waters charge down upon large boulders, then break into rushing rapids before plugging into the large sandy pool below. This waterfall, discovered some 50 years ago, is name the "PuteriWaterfalls" Over the period it has witnessed thousands of tourists almost every week, picnicking, backpacking or just bathing in the refreshing water of the pool.You'll see giant butterflies, brightly coloured spiders amidst wild tropical flowers of bright yellow, crimson and orange.

Crickets and frogs singing song of the jungle, chirping sounds of birds become the music of this tropical wonderland.The summit was just beyond the boulders. There's a flat ground revealed at the summit of Gunung Ledang at 4187ft. Wide and flat, mystical and lovely. I can get a panoramic view of Segamat and Jementah town of Johor, and the historical Melaka.

According to the legend, the princess was of slim build and medium height and had a stunning beauty. Further, she was also endowed with a sinuous movement, that accentuated every curve of her little body. Men were naturally attracted to her but amongst the many, she was claimed to have spurned was the Sultan of Melaka. The legend tells us, that the princess eventually married one Nakhoda Ragam, a hero whose name unfailingly struck terror into the hearts of those, who had dared to oppose him. ut this hero was later to die at the hands of his princess-wife. Ragam was found of tickling the Princess's ribs and one day, in an uncontrollable burst of reaction. The Princess stabbed her husband in the breast with a needle she was handling. Therefore the Princess returned to Mount Ophir and vowed never to set eyes on another man. Ragam's boat, not long after, was crushed during a storm and legend tells us that the debris of the wreck transformed into the present six islands off Melaka.
